대한무역투자진흥공사(이하 KOTRA)는 2020 두바이 엑스포 한국관 조성을 위한 건축설계 공모를 8월27일부터 시행한다. 두바이 엑스포는 2020년 10월에서 2021년 4월까지 이어지며, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future(마음을 연결하고 미래를 창조하자)’라는 주제를 통해 미래를 향한 전세계의 창조와 혁신 그리고, 협력의 정신을 강조하고 있다.
이번 두바이 엑스포는 메인 주제와 더불어, Opportunity(기회), Mobility(이동성), Sustainability(지속가능성)의 3가지 소주제를 제시하고 있는데 이 중 한국관은 Mobility(이동성)를 선정하여 한국이 지닌 산업 기술력, 문화적 경쟁력과 역동성을 새로운 시각으로 표현할 예정이다. 지식에서 정보로, 공간에서 시간으로, 도로에서 미로로 변화하는 현대 사회에서 한국의 이동성이 어떤 목적과 방향성을 가지고 있는지에 대한 건축적인 해석이 기대된다.
한국관의 부지는 특대형으로 대지면적 4,651.41㎡의 규모이며, 주요시설인 전시 및 문화 행사 공간, 상업 공간, 관리 공간 등으로 구성된다. 설계자는 필요한 시설을 포함하여 최대한의 자유로움과 상상력을 발휘하여 계획안을 제시할수 있다.
설계 공모는 한국 국적을 가진 국내·외 건축 관련 분야 전문가라면 누구나 참여 가능하다. 참가등록은 8월 27일(월)부터 10월 31일(수)까지 공식 이메일(expo2020.korea@gmail.com)을 통해 진행되며, 작품은 11월 22일(목)에 KOTRA본사로 제출하면 된다. 심사결과는 1차 서면심사와 2차 발표심사를 거쳐 오는 12월 초 웹사이트에 게재될 예정이며, 당선자에게는 실시설계권이 부여된다. 설계공모 지침서 및 관련 정보는 공고 이후 공모 공식 웹사이트(www.expo2020-korea.or.kr)에서 확인할 수 있으며, 자세한 문의사항은 공모관리팀, 커브어소시에이츠(tel. 070-7723-3265)로 문의 가능하다.

Architectural Design Competition for
the Korea Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) will launch an architectural design competition for the Korea Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai beginning August 27. The expo will be held from October 2020 to April 2021, emphasizing the spirit of creation, innovation and cooperation around the world for the future under the theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.”
In addition to the main theme, the expo presents three sub-themes: Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. The Korea Pavilion selected “Mobility” to show industrial technology, cultural competitiveness, and dynamism through new perspectives. It is expected to convey an architectural interpretation about the purpose and direction of Korea’s mobility in modern society, which changes from knowledge to information, from space to time, and from a road to a maze.
The physical site for the Korea Pavilion is very large, amounting to a land area of 4,651.41㎡, and consisting of major facilities such as spaces for exhibitions, cultural events, commercial activities and management. Designers can present their plans for the necessary facilities with as much freedom and imagination as possible.
Anyone who is a Korean architectural expert working in the domestic or overseas architectural field can participate in the competition. Registration will be open from Monday, August 27 to Wednesday, October 31 via the official email (expo2020.korea@gmail.com) and the works should be submitted to KOTRA’s head office by Thursday, November 22. The results of the evaluations will be posted on the official website (www.expo2020-korea.or.kr) in early December after the first written review and the second presentation evaluation.
